George M. Haldeman, Sr.

Center Township, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Beaver Elder Care. He was born October 3, 1925, in West Cornwall Township, Lebanon, Pa., son of the late Christian Henry and Eva (Graby) Haldeman. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. As a Combat Infantryman during the Korean Conflict, he received three Bronze Service Stars for combat and awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle.George retired from the Tin Mill, Aliquippa Works of Jones & Laughlin Steel. He was a life member of the Center Township VFW Post 1821. George was an avid hunter and member of the International Trappers Association. He enjoyed working in his garden and would often share fresh vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. George was passionate about America's great pastime baseball and was a loyal Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Family was most important to him as he always loved being around those who meant so much to him. He also loved his faithful and loyal Labradors Yeti and Duncan.In addition to his parents, he was preceded by brothers, Christian Haldeman, Phares "Dutch" Haldeman, and Joe Haldeman, Earl Zern, and his sisters, Marian Frensler, Alice Levengood, and Florence "Flossie" Rittle.George is survived by his son, George M. Haldeman, Jr., Center Township; four grandchildren, Michael Thunberg, Tia Mathews, Jessica Haldeman, and George A. (Kymberli) Haldeman; three great-grandchildren, Raeshon and Tevonte Hunter and Ellie Haldeman who will be arriving any day; his brother, Merle Haldeman; and sister, Betty Pfiefer.Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, from 2 to 7 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., Route 68, Rochester, (GPS 848 Sunflower Road, adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).Military Honors will be presented by members of the Beaver County Special Unit and representatives of the U.S. Army, 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
